Delivery & Collection

Most mainland UK locations are covered by our standard £65 furniture delivery service, with a reduced local delivery rate of £30 available within 15 miles of Bourne End SL8.

Some remote or harder-to-reach areas may require a different delivery charge, so please check our Delivery Information page before ordering or contact us if unsure.

Furniture deliveries are carried out by one-man couriers, so assistance will usually be required to help unload the item at delivery. Delivery is generally to the door, although some drivers may assist further at their own discretion.

We aim to deliver most furniture items within 10 working days, depending on location and courier routes.

Collection is also welcome from our Bourne End showroom:

Condition & Authenticity

We aim to describe the condition of every item as honestly and accurately as possible, with any notable wear, repairs, damage or imperfections clearly shown in both the description and photographs.

Established since 2005, we have built a strong knowledge of interiors, antiques and period furniture, allowing us to confidently identify and catalogue our pieces.

If you would like a more detailed condition report, additional photographs or a walkaround video via WhatsApp or SMS, we are always happy to help.

Please contact us at furniture_@live.co.uk with any enquiries.

A More Sustainable Choice

Choosing antique and reclaimed furniture is one of the most sustainable ways to furnish a home.

Older furniture was often built using solid timber and traditional craftsmanship designed to last for generations, rather than a few years.

By giving these pieces a new home, you help reduce demand for mass-produced furniture while keeping beautiful, characterful items in circulation for years to come.

Description

This substantial coffer is an impressive example of traditional English oak furniture. Crafted from thick, solid oak with a deep, historic patina, the design is heavily influenced by early 17th-century aesthetics. The front is divided into three panels, each featuring striking chevron-patterned parquetry inlays. The frieze is hand-carved with repeating lunette and foliate motifs, a classic hallmark of "Old English" cabinetry.

The chest features a triple-paneled hinged lid that opens to reveal a vast storage interior. The stiles (uprights) are embellished with vertical notch carvings, and the base is finished with a carved decorative rail. This is a heavy, quality piece that brings a grand sense of history and rustic character to a hallway, bedroom, or living space.

Condition

The coffer is in original antique condition and is structurally massive:

  • Surface: The lid and panels show significant authentic age-related wear, including deep scratches, historic marks, and finish loss (see detail photos).

  • Parquetry: The chevron inlays are mostly intact, though there are historic losses and visible "nibbles" to the wooden strips consistent with its long life.

  • Hardware: The hinges are secure. Note: There is no key present for the decorative lock.

  • Candle Box: There is an internal candle box, though the lid has detached and needs attention.

Dimensions

  • Height: 68 cm

  • Width: 122 cm

  • Depth: 54 cm

NOTE: This is an exceptionally heavy and substantial item. All delivery options are one-man deliveries and assistance from a strong adult will be required unloading.
