Delivery & Collection
Delivery & Collection
Most mainland UK locations are covered by our standard £65 furniture delivery service, with a reduced local delivery rate of £30 available within 15 miles of Bourne End SL8.
Some remote or harder-to-reach areas may require a different delivery charge, so please check our Delivery Information page before ordering or contact us if unsure.
Furniture deliveries are carried out by one-man couriers, so assistance will usually be required to help unload the item at delivery. Delivery is generally to the door, although some drivers may assist further at their own discretion.
We aim to deliver most furniture items within 10 working days, depending on location and courier routes.

A More Sustainable Choice
A More Sustainable Choice
Choosing antique and reclaimed furniture is one of the most sustainable ways to furnish a home.
Older furniture was often built using solid timber and traditional craftsmanship designed to last for generations, rather than a few years.
By giving these pieces a new home, you help reduce demand for mass-produced furniture while keeping beautiful, characterful items in circulation for years to come.

Description
Crafted from solid beech with a beautifully worn patina, this compass plane features a distinctively curved "sole" or base, allowing it to follow the internal arc of a workpiece. It carries the clear and impressive maker's mark of Atkin & Sons, Sheffield Works, Birmingham, beneath their iconic horseshoe and "Benefactum" trademark.
Atkin & Sons were premium toolmakers in the mid-to-late 1800s, and specialized curved planes like this are far less common than standard flat bench planes. While currently missing its metal iron (blade), the block retains its original wooden wedge and serves as an exceptional sculptural display piece for a workshop, study, or tool collection.
Condition
The plane is in good original antique condition with significant historic character:
-
The Body: The wood shows a deep, rich patina with historic scuffs, minor nicks, and surface wear consistent with a long working life (see detail photos).
-
Blade/Iron: Please note this tool is missing its metal blade. The original wooden wedge is present and fits securely.
-
Markings: The Atkin & Sons stamp and trademark are deeply impressed and remain very legible.
-
Build: Structurally sound and solid, with no major cracks or splits to the main block.
