Most mainland UK locations are covered by our standard £65 furniture delivery service, with a reduced local delivery rate of £30 available within 15 miles of Bourne End SL8.

Some remote or harder-to-reach areas may require a different delivery charge, so please check our Delivery Information page before ordering or contact us if unsure.

Furniture deliveries are carried out by one-man couriers, so assistance will usually be required to help unload the item at delivery. Delivery is generally to the door, although some drivers may assist further at their own discretion.

We aim to deliver most furniture items within 10 working days, depending on location and courier routes.

Condition & Authenticity

We aim to describe the condition of every item as honestly and accurately as possible, with any notable wear, repairs, damage or imperfections clearly shown in both the description and photographs.

Established since 2005, we have built a strong knowledge of interiors, antiques and period furniture, allowing us to confidently identify and catalogue our pieces.

Description

This is a genuine period bureau crafted from solid oak with a deep, historic patina. The fall-front lid opens to reveal a traditional writing interior complete with pigeonholes and small drawers. A fascinating feature of this particular desk is a hidden compartment—a classic hallmark of high-quality Georgian cabinetry designed for concealing valuables or private correspondence.

The base houses a practical "two-over-two" drawer configuration, all fitted with ornate decorative brass swan-neck handles and escutcheons. While this piece shows the marks of its long history, it remains a sturdy and functional workspace that brings immense heritage and an "old-world" aesthetic to a home office or living room.

Condition

The bureau is in heavily distressed antique condition, offering a rugged, "lived-in" look:

Surface: The wood is quite battered with significant historic marks, deep scratches, staining, and finish loss throughout (see detail photos).
The Lid: The fall-front shows wear and some historic movement in the grain, but is structurally sound when supported.
Hardware: Ornate brass handles are present and functional, showing an authentic aged tarnish.
Build: The unit is structurally solid and heavy. The drawers and secret compartment are in working order.
