Condition & Authenticity

We aim to describe the condition of every item as honestly and accurately as possible, with any notable wear, repairs, damage or imperfections clearly shown in both the description and photographs.

Established since 2005, we have built a strong knowledge of interiors, antiques and period furniture, allowing us to confidently identify and catalogue our pieces.

If you would like a more detailed condition report, additional photographs or a walkaround video via WhatsApp or SMS, we are always happy to help.

Please contact us at furniture_@live.co.uk with any enquiries.

A More Sustainable Choice

Choosing antique and reclaimed furniture is one of the most sustainable ways to furnish a home.

Older furniture was often built using solid timber and traditional craftsmanship designed to last for generations, rather than a few years.

By giving these pieces a new home, you help reduce demand for mass-produced furniture while keeping beautiful, characterful items in circulation for years to come.

A highly decorative antique Georgian Scottish longcase clock by James Forrest of Edinburgh, dating from the late 18th century, circa 1770–1790.

This impressive grandfather clock has a wonderful period look, with a beautifully aged flame

A charming antique pine washstand with original tilt mirror, dating to the late Victorian period, offering a beautifully simple and honest rustic aesthetic.

Crafted from solid pine, this piece has developed a lovely soft, pale tone over time, with natural wear, character marks, and a gently aged finish that gives it that sought-after country house / farmhouse look. It would sit effortlessly in a cottage interior, bedroom, hallway, or as a decorative storage piece in a relaxed, vintage-inspired home.

The upper section features a classic shaped gallery with an inset mirror that tilts, allowing for practical use as a dressing mirror. The proportions are elegant and understated, with softly curved side supports and a traditional moulded top.

Below sits a practical base with two full-width drawers and a lower section comprising a small cupboard to one side and an open alcove with decorative cut-out detail to the other. This layout is typical of period washstands, originally designed for storing water jugs, bowls, and everyday essentials.

The drawers retain their simple turned wooden knobs, complementing the overall rustic feel of the piece.

This is a highly versatile item that works equally well as:
• A bedroom dressing chest
• A hallway statement piece
• A rustic bathroom unit (decorative)
• A shop display prop
• A country-style storage unit

The overall look is effortlessly decorative without being overdone – exactly the kind of piece that adds warmth and authenticity to a space.

As with all antique pine furniture, there are age-related marks, wear, and signs of use throughout which contribute to its character and appeal. Please refer to the images for overall condition and finish.

veneer case over a softwood carcass, an arched brass and silvered dial, decorative gilt spandrels, and the maker’s name clearly engraved to the arch: James Forrest, Edinburgh.

The clock has strong visual presence and would make a superb statement piece in a period home, country house interior, hallway, dining room, study, antique shop display, or traditional interior design scheme.

The case has classic Georgian proportions, with a tall trunk, shaped door, decorative hood, turned columns, pierced fretwork cresting, and brass finials. The flame mahogany veneer gives the clock a rich, warm colour with attractive natural figuring and aged patina.

The dial is a particularly attractive feature, with Roman numerals, outer minute markers, subsidiary seconds dial, date aperture, engraved decoration, and ornate hands. The arched top is signed by the maker and framed by decorative brass detailing.

The clock comes with its pendulum, weights, and winding key.

This is an untested antique clock, so it is being sold as seen and may require setting up, adjustment, servicing, or attention by a clock specialist after delivery or collection. As with many antique longcase clocks, professional installation is recommended.

There are age-related marks throughout, including chips and losses to areas of veneer, wear to the case, and historic signs of use, all consistent with an antique piece of this age. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.

A very attractive antique Scottish Georgian longcase clock with a desirable Edinburgh maker’s name, decorative dial, flame mahogany veneer case, and excellent period character.
