Delivery & Collection

Most mainland UK locations are covered by our standard £65 furniture delivery service, with a reduced local delivery rate of £30 available within 15 miles of Bourne End SL8.

Some remote or harder-to-reach areas may require a different delivery charge, so please check our Delivery Information page before ordering or contact us if unsure.


Furniture deliveries are carried out by one-man couriers, so assistance will usually be required to help unload the item at delivery. Delivery is generally to the door, although some drivers may assist further at their own discretion.


We aim to deliver most furniture items within 10 working days, depending on location and courier routes.

Condition & Authenticity

We aim to describe the condition of every item as honestly and accurately as possible, with any notable wear, repairs, damage or imperfections clearly shown in both the description and photographs.


Established since 2005, we have built a strong knowledge of interiors, antiques and period furniture, allowing us to confidently identify and catalogue our pieces.

Description

This smoothing plane represents a transitional style of toolmaking, combining a heavy solid wood base with the precision of a metal mechanical adjustment system. The front of the block is deeply stamped with the prestigious "SARGENT V-B-M" (Very Best Made) mark, along with the model number No. 3409.

The plane features a cast iron frog finished in original black japanning, a turned wooden front knob, and a knurled brass adjustment nut. The Sargent V-B-M line was created to compete directly with Stanley’s top-tier planes, making this a sought-after item for those who appreciate the peak of American and British industrial tool design.

Condition

The plane is in good original antique condition with honest signs of a working life:

  • The Body: The beech wood block shows a warm, honey-colored patina with light historic scuffs, scratches, and minor nicks to the edges (see detail photos).

  • Metalwork: The black japanned finish to the metal frog is mostly intact with some age-related thinning and minor surface oxidation.

  • Mechanism: The adjustment nut moves freely. The original metal iron (blade) is present and shows an authentic oxidized patina; it will require sharpening for use.

  • Build: Structurally sound with no cracks to the wood or metal components.
