This is a substantial Victorian bow-front chest of drawers with a beautiful curved face. It’s a "two-over-three" configuration, providing five drawers of graduating depth for a huge amount of storage space.
The mahogany has a deep, dark tone and is fitted with striking black turned handles. The chest sits on chunky, turned "tulip" feet which are typical for the mid-to-late Victorian period. It’s a heavy, solid piece of furniture that would make a real statement in a bedroom or a large traditional hallway.
Condition
This chest is structurally sound but shows significant signs of age and "life," which are reflected in the price:
Surface & Edges: There are various knocks and chips to the wood, particularly on the corners of the top and around the base (see detail photos).
Finish: The top has plenty of scratches, marks, and some historic wear to the polish. There is a section of beading/trim missing or damaged on the bottom right edge.
Overall: It’s a very honest antique. It’s perfectly usable as is if you like the "shabby chic" or heavily aged look, but it would also be a great candidate for a full restoration.
