This is a very large Victorian mahogany chest of drawers, offering massive storage space. It features the classic layout of two small drawers at the top with three deep, full-width drawers below. Unlike many large Victorian chests that were "split" or cut in half for easier transport over the years, this one has remained as one solid, original piece.
The drawer fronts are finished in a beautiful flame mahogany veneer with original turned wooden knobs. It’s a structurally sound and heavy piece of furniture that has a lot of presence. While it shows plenty of history on the outside, it remains a very practical and handsome item for a bedroom or large hallway.
Condition
This chest is in original, unrestored condition and shows plenty of signs of its age:
Surface: There are marks, scratches, and water staining to the top (see photos). One drawer front has a noticeable vertical drip mark/stain.
Veneer: There are some areas of chipped and blistered veneer, particularly around the edges and the base.
Drawers: The drawers are currently lined with blue paper which is in rough condition and would definitely benefit from being removed or relined.
Overall: Structurally solid and ready to use, though it would be a fantastic candidate for a light restoration or a wax polish to bring out the grain.
