Delivery & Collection

Most mainland UK locations are covered by our standard £65 furniture delivery service, with a reduced local delivery rate of £30 available within 15 miles of Bourne End SL8.

Some remote or harder-to-reach areas may require a different delivery charge, so please check our Delivery Information page before ordering or contact us if unsure.


Furniture deliveries are carried out by one-man couriers, so assistance will usually be required to help unload the item at delivery. Delivery is generally to the door, although some drivers may assist further at their own discretion.


We aim to deliver most furniture items within 10 working days, depending on location and courier routes.

Condition & Authenticity

We aim to describe the condition of every item as honestly and accurately as possible, with any notable wear, repairs, damage or imperfections clearly shown in both the description and photographs.


Established since 2005, we have built a strong knowledge of interiors, antiques and period furniture, allowing us to confidently identify and catalogue our pieces.

Description

Crafted from a single piece of dense hardwood (likely beech or fruitwood), this spoke shave features a classic hand-carved profile with two smooth, tapered handles. The central block houses a original curved metal blade, which is held in position by two integrated tangs that pass through the body of the tool.

Tools like this were essential for the manual production of spokes, tool handles, and chair legs, allowing the craftsman to "shave" thin layers of wood to create smooth, ergonomic curves. This particular example has a wonderful, dark, age-darkened finish that only comes from decades of handling and use in a traditional workshop.

Condition

The tool is in original antique condition with significant signs of age and functional history:

  • The Body: The wood shows heavy scuffing, historic scratches, and surface wear, especially around the handle grips.

  • The Blade: The metal blade is present and remains firmly seated. It shows an authentic oxidized patina and surface pitting (see detail photos). It would require professional sharpening if intended for use.

  • Markings: There is a faint historic stamp on the blade, though it is partially obscured by age.

  • Build: Structurally very sound and solid; a sturdy and tactile object.
